Tom Pidcock suffered a concussion in a crash during the sixth and final stage of the Tour of Britain on Sunday, his Ineos Grenadiers team confirmed.
The injury will preclude him from racing for the near future meaning he will miss the Canadian Grands Prix this weekend.
The team shared this update on his condition via Instagram:
Following the crash in stage six of the Tour of Britain we can confirm that @tompidcock has sustained a concussion. He will return home for recovery and remain under the supervision of our medical team whilst he follows our concussion ‘return to training’ protocol.
Unfortunately this will mean he is unable to race in the upcoming Canadian races. We wish Tom a speedy recovery and hope he will be back to racing soon.
The team has not shared a timeframe for Pidcock’s return to racing. The next major road race after the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec on Friday, September 13 and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on Sunday, September 15 is the UCI Road World Championships road race in Zurich on September 29.
Pidcock is accomplished in both road and mountain bike racing, having won the Amstel Gold Race in the spring and an Olympic gold medal last month in XCO. He’s had other challenges this season though, including dropping out of the Tour de France with COVID without securing a stage win.
