The OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote hasn’t existed before today. What it does is add mechanical dropper post compatibility to the left controls of an existing 11-speed SRAM groupset. It’s such an obvious need that you might think surely there’s another solution out there. Now there is.
For those wondering about the necessity of this product, there are ways around needing it. If your groupset started life as a 2x compatible system, it’s not impossible to modify the existing SRAM lever. You’d need to pull the ratchet out and once it was done you’d have a setup where the cable end feeds into the shifter not the dropper. You’d also need to install a barrel adjuster somewhere.
That might not sound like a big deal but not everyone has a 2x setup with a shifter assembly on the left. SRAM doesn’t sell only a left lever assembly so you’d need to find a donor then modify it. Instead, OneUp is offering an affordable and easy to install lever that matches the factory SRAM piece. There’s built-in tension adjustment with the cable clamp located in the remote and the cable-end in the dropper post.
Bottom line, although it’s an obvious need, no simple solution previously existed. There were ways to do it but now it’s simpler and potentially cheaper.
Compatibility, availability, and price
This is a solution for older SRAM 11-speed Hydro groupsets. SRAM Apex, Rival, Force, or Red mechanical only. The OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote does not work with SRAM ETap, SRAM AXS, or SRAM Apex 12 speed and it does not work with Shimano groupsets.
On the dropper post side, compatibility is only guaranteed with OneUp components. Realistically there shouldn’t be an issue with other mechanical droppers but OneUp says it best when the brand states “This product should also work with most brand’s dropper posts, but we cannot guarantee fitment and performance – with the exception of the OneUp V3/V2 Dropper Post. If you buy this paddle to actuate another brand’s dropper, you do so at your own risk.”
Pricing via the OneUp website is $69.99 / £57.99 / 63.99€
