I am 6’3″ / 191 cm and weigh in around 265lbs / 120 Kilos. My body shape is relatively long legs , but also a lot of my height comes from my Torso. This made the handlebars too low for me so read on to see how that was addressed.

Initial Impressions: Bike came on schedule and it was well packaged. There were no issues with parts missing, flat tires , or any other issues I have read about in the other reviews. The bike comes mostly assembled. My #1 recommendation is search You-Tube for Royce Union Bike assembly. I found the printed manual incomplete and somewhat confusing. The you tube video is about 12 minutes and it was perfect.

Once assembled took it for a quick ride. Gear shifting takes a little getting use to, but after a few rides I have gotten use to it. I raised the seat but could not raise the handlebars. The saddle it came with was brutally uncomfortable so I ordered a new one. I also took it to the local bike shop and had a new riser (to raise the handlebars) put in. The break cables were long enough with the extension so I did not have to replace those (had I know this I probably would have done it myself). Now with raised handlebars , new more comfortable saddle it’s a joy to ride so far. Other upgrades include kickstand , bell and odometer. So overall an extra $150 or so.

For now very satisfied with the purchase along with the upgrades mentioned. I ride mostly roads with some trails. Bike feels solid and I am a big guy. I will update as I get more time on it.

not light weight even though alloy frame, front derailler wont adjust for all gears- I set mine to the two highest, as a regular rider some years ago; time to get back on the bike, seat not bad height not bad even for an old guy, brakes not bad after adjustment, added toe clips, no cleats this time, remember you get what you pay for I might upgrade later but good for now, also tires are more street than trail

  3. Happy enough to review

So happy, came on time, no issues or games. You need a seat cover, trust me.

  4. Amazon Customer

The bike was easy to order, it was delivered on time, easy to assemble and rides great! It is just what I was looking for versus higher priced bikes. Plus, Customer Service was very responsive with a question I had.

  5. Dan

Flat and broken tire after 1 ride!!!!!!

  6. neil jacobson

Bike arrived with a defective front fork, also bent spokes which I just bent back. I put together a few bikes and this one was pretty easy, I just wish I could ride it. Edit: almost a month later and replacement part has yet to arrive…still sitting as a pile of junk on my floor. What an absolute waste of money, don’t make the same mistake I did.
Re edit: After a month of waiting for the replacement part I called them back. After the initial call they said the product would be shipped promptly and arrive within 7-10 days. Today they told me the part was on back order, hasn’t shipped and they have no idea when it will. I then contacted amazon for a return but it’s a huge hassle, all just to get my money back. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! They straight up lied to me in hopes the return window would expire.
Re Re Edit: Amazon will not take the return, so no I’m basically stuck with a 500$ heap of metal on the ground I cant use or send back. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM AMAZON AGAIN

I ride this bike to work and back, and so far it’s given me almost no problem at all. Easy assembly, and a smooth ride. The only issue is that the seat was a bit uncomfortable, so I had to replace the seat with a different one. Otherwise, a very nice bike.

Makes a funny noise when I pedal so if you don’t wanna hear a clicking noise every 5 seconds don’t buy. Otherwise great bike I’d buy again

This has the potential to be a good bike…with some help. I suspect this is the dumbed down version of a bike sold at a higher dollar value. I have only ridden it for about twenty minutes and may have additional comments as I get more use out of the bike, but therein lies the first problem. I could only tolerate being on the bike for 20 minutes. The knife, I mean the seat, has got to go. The seat is absolutely awful and if you purchase this bike just go ahead and buy a seat somewhere else. Because the seat is so narrow it cannot distribute the load and it is painful to sit on. Also, the bike does not come with a kickstand. Plan on buying one of those. The front reflector does not fit on the front center column. In theory you could have fit it on the handlebars – if the hand grips and shifters were not pre-installed. But they are, so it doesn’t fit on the handlebars either. I suppose you could wear it on your pinky like a ring, but the only place on the bike where it fits is the seat stem where the rear reflector goes. So, yeah, you need to buy another forward reflector, too. The pedals are also tiny and unless you have very small feet you’re probably going to want to buy some other pedals, too. So far the core frame seems solid and the gear shifting worked well, so you don’t need to replace the entire bike. Oh, be aware the brakes will require a LOT of adjusting to get right. I’m still fighting with the rear brake. Braking power is VERY low right now. Pretty much no such thing as an emergency stop. That I hope to get right with some trial and error, but as of today most of the braking power is achieved through coasting. Oh, the instructions are terrible, too. Read them a couple of times before getting started. Bottom line, this is a fixer upper. If you like to tinker, you should have fun getting the bike in shape. If not, buyer beware.

  10. Dave

front tire has a bad valve cant hold any air. instructions are the worst thing I’ve ever seen
bike is solid don’t get me wrong but the hassle of taking it apart.. putting it back in the box and waiting for an exchange? I would rather just pay someone to fix the tire on my own.. bike is solid and seems like a great bike but one bad part isn’t worth the pain the box back up.

Overall it is a great bike. I give the bike 5 stars but I have to give 4 stats because it arrived late.

This is not a highend bike so don’t expect highend hardware like quick release wheels. With that said the hardware is extremely strong.

The frame is heavy duty and much more than I expected for the price. I am 6’4″ 300lbs and the frame barely flexed under my weight.

The barrings struggle under my extreme weight but when my friend (225lbs) rode the bike there was no squeaking or signs of struggle.

The brakes seem good and they were able to stop me in a reasonable distance.

I like the tires they are wide and not overly aggressive. I think they will do good on trails and they are great on the road. They produce less drag than expected.

The rear end is set up to accept a luggage rack.

    Gears seem to shift smoothly.

If I could change one thing about this bike it would be ride position, but that is difficult to find in stock bike.

For the price I am not sure there is a better city/trail bike for an entry level rider on the market. This bike seems to be on par with the Specialized ‘Hard Rock’ I had stolen.

Do not buy the 22″ if you have less than a 38″ inseam I have a 39 1/2″ inseam and I barley fit this frame.

In the future if the company makes a hybrid with this frame I will buy one.

This is a great bike…the bike took me about 45 mins to assemble with no issues (I’ve never built a bike, but I am handy with tools and doing projects). After building the bike, I added a water bottle holder and a kickstand (which are not included with the bike)

I’ve ridden the bike over a dozen times since owning it, on rough and smooth terrain, and I have had no issues as of yet. I did change out the seat, as the one it comes with is not comfortable after a few miles.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in non competitive cycling on rough or smooth terrain. This bike rides nice, and I would purchase again.
