Strava’s New Family Plan is a Great Deal, Even if You’re Not Related

Cell phone carriers offer them, and Spotify does, too. So it’s only fitting that the fitness tracking app Strava has launched a family plan in the hopes of getting more users on the platform.

The new offering from the California company offers a deep discount for individual users if they sign up as a “family” of up to four people. (We use quotation marks there because there is no actual requirement that members of a family plan be related to one another, only that they reside in the same country).

Strava’s family plan is billed at $139.99 annually for a maximum of four users on the plan. Strava’s individual memberships cost $79.99/year, so even with two people on a family plan, there is a cost savings of $20.

Users can save the most by maximizing the membership with four people — that amounts to $35 each, a savings of 56 percent.

Family plan members will have access to all the same premium features that individual Strava members do, including leaderboards, route building, group challenges, and custom goal setting.

Of course, the fitness app still offers a free account, which gives athletes access to activity recording, safety tools, and lifetime PRs.

The only catch with the new plan is that if someone who has already paid for an individual membership wants to join a family plan, that person will have to cancel their individual membership in order to join the new plan. Strava claims that all of his or data should be transferred once they have joined a family plan.
