Instagram video downloader online: save Reels and video posts as MP4
Instagram’s Save button only bookmarks a post inside the app. The video itself still lives on Instagram and disappears if the owner deletes it, archives it or switches the account to private. DownBurg is a free Instagram video downloader that runs in your browser. You paste the link of a public Reel or video post, it fetches the video file Instagram serves for that post, and you save it as an MP4 on your phone, tablet or computer.
There is nothing to install and you never type your Instagram password. If you were searching for a way to download an Instagram Reel, save an Instagram video to your camera roll or turn an Instagram link into an MP4, the steps below take less than a minute.
How to download an Instagram video or Reel from a link
Step 1: Copy the Instagram link
- In the Instagram app: open the Reel or video, tap the Share (paper-plane) icon and choose Copy link. On some versions the three-dot menu has a Link option instead.
- In a browser: open the post on instagram.com and copy the address from the address bar.
- Which links work: links to a single Reel (
/reel/), a video post (/p/) or a longer IGTV-style video (/tv/). A profile link is not enough, because the tool needs the exact post. Extra tracking text such as?igsh=at the end is fine.
Step 2: Paste it and press Download
Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Download. DownBurg checks the post and shows a preview of the video together with the file that is available for it.
Step 3: Save the MP4
- Android: the video usually goes to your Downloads folder and often shows up in the Gallery or Google Photos too.
- iPhone and iPad: use Safari. When the download finishes, open it from the download icon in the address bar, then tap Share and Save Video to place it in your camera roll, or keep it in the Files app.
- Windows, Mac and Linux: the file lands in your browser’s Downloads folder. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work, and no extension or desktop app is needed.
Watermarks and overlays
DownBurg does not add any logo or watermark of its own. It gives you the video file as Instagram serves it for that post. Anything that is part of the picture, such as the creator’s own logo, captions or text stickers, stays, because it was burned into the video when it was uploaded. Copies made with some other tools or in-app sharing options can carry extra on-screen branding or a username, so if a saved clip looks different from what you expected, download it again by pasting the original link here.
What you can and cannot download
| Content | Supported? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Public Reels | Yes | Paste the Reel link. |
| Public video posts | Yes | Use the link of the single post. |
| Longer videos (IGTV-style links) | Yes, if still available | Links with /tv/ are accepted. |
| Posts with several slides | Varies | Results depend on what Instagram returns for that post. |
| Photo-only posts | No | The tool is built for video files. |
| Stories and Highlights | No | They are temporary and are not post links. |
| Private accounts | No | DownBurg never bypasses privacy settings or logins. |
| Profile pictures, cover images, music as MP3 | No | Only the video file is saved. |
| Facebook Reels and TikTok videos | Other pages | Use the Facebook Reels downloader or the TikTok video downloader. |
Video quality: HD, 1080p and 4K
Instagram compresses everything creators upload, and Reels and video posts are generally served at up to about 1080p. True 4K is not something Instagram normally offers, so a “4K Instagram downloader” cannot create it. DownBurg downloads the best file Instagram returns for the post and never upscales it. If a clip looks soft after downloading, it almost always looks the same inside Instagram.
Audio and music
DownBurg saves the video only. It does not offer a separate MP3 download or a way to pull a song out of a Reel. If you just need the sound, save the MP4 and extract the audio with a media app on your own device. Remember that music used in Reels is often licensed, so only reuse audio you have the right to use.
Instagram download not working? Check these first
- Is the account public? Open the link in a private or incognito window. If Instagram asks you to log in to see it, the tool cannot fetch it either.
- Is it a single post link? Copy it again with Share → Copy link from the post itself, not from the profile.
- Is it a video? Photo posts, Stories and Highlights are not supported.
- Was it deleted, archived or restricted by region? If it will not play for you, there is no file to fetch.
- Turn off a VPN or strict ad blocker for a moment, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Try again later. Instagram changes how it delivers video from time to time, so a link that failed can work again after a short wait.
Online downloader or an app?
Many “story saver” and downloader apps ask you to log in with your Instagram account or request broad permissions. Giving your password to a third-party app is risky, and APK files from outside the official stores are a known way for malware to reach a phone. A browser-based downloader asks for neither, installs nothing and works the same on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac. If you want one-tap access, add this page to your home screen.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Instagram video downloader free?
Yes. There is no account, subscription or app to buy.
Do I need to log in to Instagram?
No. DownBurg works from the public link and never asks for your Instagram username or password.
Can I download a whole profile or all of someone’s Reels at once?
No. DownBurg saves one video per link. Open each Reel you want and copy its own link.
How do I save an Instagram Reel to my iPhone camera roll?
Download it in Safari, open the file from the download icon, then choose Share → Save Video. It will appear in Photos.
Is it okay to download and repost Instagram videos?
Saving a video for your own viewing is different from reposting it. Videos belong to their creators, so ask permission and give credit before sharing or reusing them. This is general information, not legal advice.
Use it responsibly
Only download videos you own, have permission to keep, or are otherwise allowed to save. If a creator has asked not to be reused, respect that. Copyright owners can contact us through the copyright page, and you can read more on the About page.
